Alpha and Omega
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." Revelation 22:13.
Alpha and omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. The first meaning behind this verse is that Jesus is stating He is eternal. He was here before creation and He will still be here after the world comes to an end. Jesus is the second person of the Trinity (the Godhead, three in one). As God incarnate, He has no beginning, nor will He have any end, being from everlasting to everlasting.
The second meaning of Jesus as the “Alpha and Omega” is that the phrase acknowledges Him asthe God of the Old Testament. Isaiah ascribes this aspect of Jesus’ nature as part of the triune God. “I, the Lord, am the first, and with the last I am He." Isaiah 41:4. He is found in the first verse of Genesis and in the last verse of Revelation. He is the first and last, the all in all of salvation, from the justification before God to the final sanctification of His people.
Jesus, the First and the Last, God in the flesh, the Living Word, came to earth as a baby to show us the way. "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters." 1 John 3:16.
Remember, the everlasting God knows your name and loves you. No matter how far you stray, He will always be searching for you. Your tomorrow has already been planned out. All you have to do is trust Jesus to guide your steps. Alpha & Omega
